Discovered Kyle's Wed and Wild Watercolour brush and did some food illustrations with it inspired by Ashlley Keuhl Stone's oranges and blueberries.   We had to do a dining out section for a Tropical North Queensland travel brochure.

At college we had a guest speaker, Felicity Gardner, who is an ex-student.   She said how important it is to keep drawing everyday and keep the momentum up after leaving.  If we don't draw every day then we lose our skills very quickly.  She suggested going infer Illustration Friday which she was chosen for several times.   This week's theme is Silence.  So here is my a quick sketch of my grandson, finally asleep (blessed relief)  coloured in digitally.   Felicity Gardener is now doing books for Coles and Kmart,   Her roughs are amazing and yet she apologised for their poor quality!

Elephant's Child

Out of all the Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling The Elephant's Child must be the one that has inspired more images than any of the others.    Izmar Cohen did the first one for Royal Mail Stamp Card Series and is PHQ 237(e)1.02 and was issued on 15 January, 2002. (Further details from : Royal Mail, FREEPOST, Edinburgh EH12 9PE).
The second one is my interpretation and is worked in drill cotton and embroidery.  If anyone has any more images they would like to share please do or even start an Elephant's Child Blog.

St. David's Day has just been and I want to share some artists that I discovered in my search.   I would like to meet with other Welsh artists in Sydney to share,  or paint with, Wales or Welsh related subjects. This picture is by Muriel Williams.  'Shopping in the Rain.'

Since my last post I ended up with eye problems and having to have surgery. The good news is that if one does have bad eyes one truly sees the world differently to others. Essential for an artist! One uses more colour, and bits of rubbish on the road are now seen as glittering objects. I also went to Enmore TAFE last year to do an Illustration course. I will share some of the projects we were given and various responses. Four subjects wanted us to keep a daily sketch book! This was on top of the homework piled on top of us. B pencils were being bought by fistfuls to keep up with this demand. (in the end none of us could keep up and only one sketch book was really done. We had to pull in books from the past. In experimental Illustration we would be shown a technique and then had to create ten drawings using it around a theme. For example we were taken to Fairground Follies, spent an afternoon drawing the exhibits and then had to produce ten drawings and then turn two into lino prints.
